London and Paris lead in the number of air passenger arrivals from overseas, according to the quarterly report by European Cities Marketing and ForwardKeys.
According to the study, in the second quarter of 2018, the number of flights arriving in Europe from distant countries increased by 8.4%, compared to the same period last year. This growth made it possible to balance the decrease in intra-European arrivals by 4.1%. According to experts, this trend will continue in the third quarter.
The most popular cities among long-distance travelers are London, with 17% passenger traffic, and Paris, with 14%. Istanbul is in third place. The top 10 also includes Geneva, Tallinn, Dubrovnik, and Zurich. Interestingly, Swiss cities were not among the top ten most popular in the first quarter. Perhaps the reason for the increase in the number of travelers was the fall in the Swiss franc.
According to experts, Asia, Oceania, Central and South America demonstrated high growth rates in the second quarter of the year in terms of the number of flights to Europe. As for the results taking into account intra-European flights, London, Paris and Rome were in the top three in terms of the number of foreign arrivals. In the third quarter of 2018, Istanbul, Tallinn and Dubrovnik will compete for inclusion in the top 3.
