The Cypriot airline Cobalt Air has stopped operations due to financial difficulties. All flights of this carrier have been cancelled from midnight from October 17 to 18, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
Among those cancelled was a night flight from Larnaca to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport. Cobalt Air had been flying to Moscow since 2017, first from Paphos and then from Larnaca. The carrier's route network, which had 6 Airbus A320 family aircraft, included 23 destinations.
The company's closure was caused by a failure in negotiations with a potential investor. Cobalt Air did not give any instructions to passengers who were left with its tickets - except for advice to try to get their money back through the bank whose card was used to make the payment. The Cypriot authorities have announced their intention to facilitate the transportation of passengers of the bankrupt company, but there are no specifics on this matter yet.
The difficulties of Cypriot airlines have been going on for quite some time. Several years ago, the national carrier Cyprus Airways was closed (now a new small airline created by the Russian “Siberia” (S7 Airlines) operates flights under this brand). The bulk of the flights are carried out by foreign companies, including the Greek Aegean Airlines and budget companies Ryanair and easyJet.
