Ethiopian Airlines has postponed the launch of flights from Addis Ababa to Moscow. Instead of the previously planned November 15, the opening of the line is now scheduled for December 6, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
This is not the first time plans for this route have been adjusted. Earlier, the carrier reduced the planned frequency of flights. Instead of the previously planned 4 times a week, only 3 remained in the schedule. All this indicates low demand and raises some doubts that the route will be opened at all - especially since ticket prices remain high. In particular, the minimum price for a roundtrip flight from Moscow to Addis Ababa is now 38,469 rubles, and to Johannesburg with a transfer in Addis Ababa - 50,542 rubles.
Let us remind you that the flights are planned with a stopover in Istanbul on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Departure from Addis Ababa at 0:30, landing in Istanbul from 4:40 to 5:40, arrival in Moscow (Sheremetyevo Airport) at 9:20. Return departure at 21:00, landing in Istanbul from 22:45 to 23:45, arrival in Addis Ababa at 6:05. Total travel time is 9 hours. Ticket sales on the Moscow – Istanbul route are not planned.
The route is planned to be operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines' Boeing 787 has 270 seats: 24 business class seats (2+2+2 layout, lie flat) and 246 economy class seats (3+3+3 layout).
This is the only case at the moment when a foreign airline's plane has a planned half-day stop at Sheremetyevo. This was obviously done to optimize connections in Addis Ababa with other Ethiopian Airlines flights, mostly in Africa.
Russian citizens have the opportunity to obtain a visa to Ethiopia upon arrival. In addition, from June 1, Ethiopia introduced the possibility of obtaining an online visa in advance for citizens of all countries (this is more expensive than at the airport).
