Heavy snowfall in southern Austria and Germany has killed at least seven people at ski resorts in those countries, local media reported.
As it became known, the snowstorm began in the region on January 6: due to the blizzard, local authorities decided to evacuate tourists and local residents from a number of ski resorts. However, despite the measures taken, according to The Daily Mail, the natural disaster claimed the lives of seven people. At the same time, Bild reports nine deaths.
In turn, according to TASS, the entire ski resort of Hochkar was evacuated in Austria. Local authorities fear a powerful avalanche and a catastrophe similar to the one that occurred about 20 years ago in Galtür, when in February 1999, snow masses covered an entire commune and led to the death of 31 people.
According to weather forecasters, snowfalls will continue at least until the end of the week.
