Museum of Russian Cheesemakers to Open in Kostroma

A unique museum of Russian cheese makers will be opened in Kostroma. Location: "Kostroma Cheese Station", Budikhino village on the highway between Yaroslavl and Kostroma, the "pearls" of the Golden Ring.

The museum's theme is determined by historical realities. Kostroma has been recognized for centuries as the "cheese capital of Russia". Even in Soviet times, Kostroma cheese was the most popular and widespread in the country.

»The museum exhibition "Kostroma Cheese Station" consists of items related to the production and processing of milk, cheese making. There are more than a hundred of them," — says the manager of the tourist complex »Train station »Kostroma Cheese".

First of all, the attention of the guests will be attracted by the unique copper utensils of cheese makers of past centuries, as well as a huge collection of botals - bells that were hung on the necks of cows.

By the way, the origin of the village name is associated with the botals in Budikhino. They say that in ancient times, early in the morning, a herd of local cows - the ancestors of today's Yaroslavl and Kostroma breeds - would descend to pastures from the mountain on which the village is located. And even before the morning service, they would fill the surrounding area with the sounds of their botals, waking up the suburbs of Kostroma. Hence the name of the village - Budikhino.
