This year, demand for medical and health travel during holidays has grown among Russians by 20–25%, the Medical Tourism Association reports.
“Some of our compatriots will have time to go abroad for treatment, however, this is not the most popular destination for Russians during the New Year holidays. There is too little time for a serious medical process, for which domestic patients usually seek treatment abroad, so these are more likely trips for general health diagnostics, for dental services, plastic surgery and cosmetology, as well as health vacations, where you can combine New Year celebrations with medical and health procedures. Among the most popular countries are Turkey and Finland,” the association notes.
It is worth noting that due to the recent events around Jerusalem, the demand for tourist and, in particular, medical trips to Israel has fallen somewhat. Many have preferred to postpone their plans in this country until the political situation normalizes.
And yet, the New Year holidays are the most favorable time for domestic medical tourism. Russians choose one- or two-day medical procedures during this period, thus having time for shopping, visiting relatives, celebrating holidays, and, of course, seeing the cities of stay.
The most popular cities where Russians will go to celebrate and get treatment on the eve of the New Year are: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Mineralnye Vody.
"It is in these cities that, along with a variety of cultural programs, high-quality medical services are also offered to our compatriots and foreign guests. In addition, according to surveys, about 1% Russians will celebrate the New Year in domestic sanatoriums," he noted. President of the Russian Association of Medical Tourism Konstantin Onishchenko.
