In the Spanish city of Cordoba (Andalusia), the traditional Patio Festival has begun, during which residents of old houses compete in decorating their courtyards. During the holiday, the walls of houses on the patio side, floors, and window sills are literally strewn with pots of blooming geraniums and jasmine – many tourists gather to look at the picturesque courtyards and take pictures of them.
As reported by “Spain in Russian”, the patio festival will last until May 14. The patios participating in the competition will be open to visitors every day from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00. An interactive map of the city, where the patios are marked, can be downloaded here.
The Festival of the Patios, included by UNESCO in the list of Intangible Heritage of Humanity, has been held in Cordoba since 1921. Not only private houses take part in it, but also historical architectural complexes, palaces and ecclesiastical buildings.
