Egyptian President orders extension of state of emergency for three months

TASS: The Egyptian parliament approved on Sunday a decree by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to extend the state of emergency in the country for three months, the Al-Watan news portal reported.

This decision was approved by almost all deputies. Egypt. The law will come into effect on October 15 throughout the country and will last for 3 months. Based on the text of the decree, it is known that the armed forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are allowed to “take the necessary measures to counter the threat of terrorism, suppress its sources of financing, ensure security throughout the republic, protect state and private property, as well as the lives of citizens.”

Recall that emergency measures were introduced in Egypt after the April terrorist attacks that took place in churches in the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria. Suicide bombers detonated explosive devices during festive services on the occasion of Palm Sunday. These terrorist attacks took the lives of 45 people, and more than 120 were injured. Responsibility for the incidents was almost immediately claimed by the terrorist group Islamic State (this group is banned in the Russian Federation – editor's note).

Following the attacks, President al-Sisi, in an address to the nation, said he intended to impose a state of emergency in the country, which could be extended every three months.
