Until the end of December, discounts of 10% are available on the pan-European InterRail rail pass. They apply only to the Global Pass, which is valid across the continent. The ticket can be used for 11 months after purchase, including next autumn, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
When purchased before December 31, a Global Pass ticket for the whole of Europe for adult passengers aged 26 to 59 costs €196 (usually €218) in second class for 3 days of travel within a month, €254 (usually €282) for 5 days of travel within a month, €302 (usually €335) for 7 days of travel within a month, €361 (usually €401) for 10 days of travel within 2 months, €443 (usually €493) for 15 days of travel within 2 months. €399 instead of €443 for 15 unlimited days of travel in a row, €466 instead of €518 for 22 days. A monthly pass costs €603 instead of €676, a two-month pass costs €658 instead of €731, and a three-month pass costs €812 instead of €902. The first class option is one and a half times more expensive, for pensioners over 60 years old – approximately 10% cheaper.
The fares for young people under 26 under this offer are 151 instead of 168 euros for 3 days within a month, 195 instead of 217 euros for 5 days within a month, 232 euros instead of 258 for 7 days of travel within a month, 277 instead of 308 euros for 10 days within 2 months, 341 instead of 379 for 15 days of travel within 2 months. Consecutive passes cost 307 instead of 341 euros for 15 unlimited days, 358 instead of 398 euros for 22 days, 464 instead of 515 euros for a full month, 506 instead of 562 for 2 months, 624 instead of 693 for 3 months of unlimited travel.
Among the InterRail country passes, discounts are available on options in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux (a combined pass for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg), Austria, Denmark, Greece (plus a separate ferry pass between the Greek islands), Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania and Turkey. All discounted passes are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, meaning they should only be purchased if you are absolutely sure you will be travelling within the next 11 months (standard-priced passes can be returned before use). There are no discounts on passes to the following countries: Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Finland (but you can use the discounted pan-European Global Pass, prices for which are listed above).
Let us recall that in 2015 a family version of the travel card was introduced. It allows each adult to take two children under 12 years old with them free of charge. However, they must be added to the travel card in advance. In addition, it became possible to buy discount tickets for the high-speed Eurostar, which travels through the Channel Tunnel.
You can buy tickets on the official website www.interrail.eu or at the ticket offices of most European railways. Let us remind you that InterRail allows unlimited travel in second-class seated carriages in a selected country or throughout Europe. For some trains (usually high-speed and night trains), additional seat reservations or surcharges are required. In some countries (France, Spain), travel with InterRail is complicated by high surcharges charged by local railways for using high-speed trains and the almost complete absence of a sensible alternative to such trains on many routes.
