The State Duma adopted in the third and final reading amendments to the Federal Law “On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation”, which establish the possibility of temporarily restricting the rights to leave the country for former employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
"A restriction on travel abroad may be introduced for a period of up to five years from the date of dismissal from military service in the Federal Security Service. The procedure for making decisions on travel restrictions will be established by the FSB of the Russian Federation," the agency's press service reported.
At present, the right of FSB employees to travel abroad may be restricted during their military service, and after leaving service in the state security agencies, travel may be restricted only if they were aware of information of particular importance or top secret information.
In addition, the Chairman of the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption Vasily Piskarev noted that the need to adopt the law was caused by “the increasing number of cases of openly hostile actions and provocations by a number of foreign states against Russia and our citizens abroad.”
