Discounts of £15% are available until the end of March on the InterRail pan-European rail pass. These apply to both the continent-wide Global Pass and many country-specific options. The ticket can be used for 11 months after purchase, including next summer, reports Travel.ru's own correspondent.
When purchased before March 31, a Global Pass ticket for the whole of Europe for adult passengers aged 26 to 59 costs 229 euros (usually 269 euros) in second class for 5 days of travel within 15 days, 272 euros (usually 320) for 7 days of travel within a month, 324 euros (usually 381) for 10 days of travel within a month, 401 euros (usually 472) for 15 days of travel within a month. 15 unlimited days of travel in a row will cost 358 instead of 421 euros, 22 days will cost 419 instead of 493 euros. A monthly pass costs 541 instead of 637 euros. The first class option is one and a half times more expensive, for pensioners over 60 years old it is about 10% cheaper.
The fares for young people under 26 under this offer are 177 instead of 208 euros for 5 days out of half a month, 217 euros instead of 255 for 7 days of travel per month, 259 instead of 305 euros for 10 days per month, 320 instead of 376 for 15 days of travel per month. Consecutive passes cost 286 instead of 337 euros for 15 unlimited days, 335 instead of 394 euros for 22 days and 434 instead of 510 euros for a full month.
Among the InterRail country passes, discounts are available on options in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux (a combined pass for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg), Austria, Greece (plus a separate ferry pass between the Greek islands), Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey. All discounted passes are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, meaning they should only be purchased if you are absolutely sure you will be travelling within the next 11 months. There are no discounts on passes to the following countries: Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland (but you can use the discounted pan-European Global Pass, prices for which are listed above).
Let us recall that in 2015 a family version of the travel card was introduced. It allows each adult to take two children under 12 years old with them free of charge. However, they must be added to the travel card in advance. In addition, it became possible to buy discount tickets for the high-speed Eurostar, which travels through the Channel Tunnel.
You can buy tickets on the official website www.interrail.eu or at the ticket offices of most European railways. Let us remind you that InterRail allows unlimited travel in second-class seated carriages in a selected country or throughout Europe. For some trains (usually high-speed and night trains), additional seat reservations or surcharges are required. In some countries (France, Spain), travel with InterRail is complicated by high surcharges charged by local railways for using high-speed trains and the almost complete absence of a sensible alternative to such trains on many routes.
