Sports tourism is becoming increasingly popular – many Russians travel abroad to take part in one or another competition: marathons, swims, bike races, or to cheer on other participants. On September 23, Slovenia will host the world-famous Ironman triathlon race – one of the most spectacular competitions of its kind.
Slovenia was not chosen by the World Triathlon Corporation to host the race by chance, writes Euromag.ru. The country is located in the heart of Europe at the crossroads of four contrasting landscapes: the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst. The competition will be held on the Adriatic coast in the Istria region.
Triathlon is a sport that is a multi-sport race consisting of three consecutive stages: swimming, cycling and running. Ironman 70.3 Istria includes a 1.2-mile (1.9-kilometer) swim, a 56-mile (90.1-kilometer) bike ride and a 13.1-mile (21-kilometer) run.
