Research: Which months are the best to fly?

The travel service Tutu.ru analyzed all issued air tickets with departures to more than 130 countries for the year from September 1, 2018 to September 1, 2019.

As the company's press service told the TRN portal, the most expensive air tickets are in August and January. August is still and the most favorite month among travelers (by share of flights). In January, most often those who fly somewhere choose the time of vacation and destinations where they can warm up, and these are distant foreign routes. Hence the higher price tag on air tickets. It is cheapest to fly in the off-season: in February, March, October and November.

By purchasing airline tickets with departure in the off-season, rather than in the hot summer season, you can save up to 30% on the cost of the airline ticket.

The cheapest month for air travel was March. A round-trip ticket cost an average of 23,813 rubles. February came in second (24,254 rubles), and November came in third (24,528 rubles). The most expensive tickets were sold in the summer months (July, August) and in January.

Passenger traffic was compared in each of the 12 months. Most often, passengers choose July and August for travel, and the least number of flights are in February and March.

In Russia, passengers also most often choose July and August for travel, and fly the least in February.

Each country has its own high and low season. For example, most tourists go to Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Montenegro in August. In December, travelers like to come to Germany and the Czech Republic. In general, the least popular months for tourists to travel around Europe are January, February, and November.

Summer is not always the most expensive time to travel around Europe. For example, the most expensive time to fly to the Czech Republic is in December and January (but you could save on tickets if you fly there in February). For a budget trip to Germany, it is better to choose February. September and November are suitable for trips to Bulgaria, but those who are thrifty should not go there in January.

As for the 10 countries listed, the cheapest months to travel are November and February, and the most expensive is August.

January is a popular month for tourists flying to India and Thailand. February is popular for those flying to the Maldives. Turkey is hit by a wave of tourists in June, July and August, and Israel in October. October is popular for those flying to India and the UAE. Tourists tend to get to Vietnam from October to January, and to Cuba in November.

As for distant foreign countries, it is profitable to fly to them in June and November. But when buying tickets, you need to take into account the season. For example, you can fly to Vietnam profitably in November or May. And a trip to the USA in August will help you save on tickets.

The main passenger flow occurs in the summer months. But not in all countries. For example, the largest number of passengers fly to Uzbekistan in November. In July, there is a sharp decrease in passenger flow to Georgia due to the cancellation of direct flights between the countries.

Cheap trips to neighboring countries can be planned in February and March. On the contrary, the most expensive air tickets are in July and August. But there are countries where a flight in December costs the same as in the summer months. For example, flying to Tajikistan in December is more expensive than in June.
