The closure of the Cyprus airline Cobalt Air has taken some Russian tour operators by surprise.
Let us recall that the company cooperated with such tour operators as TUI, Ambotis Holidays, BTA and Coral Travel, for whom the question arose with the termination of their partner’s work - How can we take tourists back to their homeland?
TUI's press service commented that all clients of their tour operator will be transported to Russia by Ural Airlines, which is also their partner and main supplier of charter flights.
"We have a small block of seats on Cobalt in the winter season. In the summer, we also took clients to Cyprus on their boards, there were no problems," commented Tatyana Kruglova, PR manager of the tour operator, adding that they are currently counting the number of tourists who were supposed to fly in the near future.
Coral Travel also decided to take tourists out on their own, and BTA CEO Revaz Mgeladce stated:
"There are only six flights left until the end of the program, we have a small block - 10 seats on outbound flights, and only 10 people on inbound flights. The issue of transferring them to other carriers is currently being resolved. There are not many tourists, so there should be no problems with this."
Ambotis Holidays has not yet commented on the current situation.
Passengers who were supposed to fly out of Cyprus on October 7 and 18 are offered to buy a ticket for a flight with another carrier and submit a receipt to the accounting department of the ministry, after which the department will compensate their expenses. Those who were supposed to return home from October 19 to 24 will be transported on board other airlines, for which tourists will need to contact the ticket agencies listed on the website, which will exchange the tickets of the closed airline for others.
Despite the sudden cancellation of flights, the situation did not have significant consequences only because the season is coming to an end and there is no particular influx of tourists.
