Phuket lifeguards have warned tourists that they may encounter poisonous sea snakes on Phuket beaches, reports The Phuket News.
The warning came after a local resident filmed a sea snake he spotted on Nai Yang Beach and posted this message on social media.
As it turned out, this was not the first sea snake on the Phuket coast last week. On Wednesday, September 5, two dead sea reptiles were found on Patong Beach.
Speaking to Phuket News, Phuket Lifeguard Club President Prathajut Chuayuan said that snakes appearing on beaches is nothing unusual as it happens from time to time.
"In most cases, we find them already dead because they are not adapted to life on land," Mr. Chuayuan said.
The head of the Phuket Lifeguard Club warned tourists that touching snakes or disturbing them in any way can be dangerous. If a snake is found, it is necessary to inform the nearest rescuer.
"If a snake bites someone, please notify rescuers immediately so that they can provide first aid. Be careful as these snakes are poisonous," he added.
If there are no lifeguards on the beach, you can contact the Phuket Marine Biology Center at 076–391128 or email pmbc@dmcr.mail.go.th.
