Advanced treatment methods at the InterMed exhibition

On March 13–15, 2018, the 9th International Exhibition of Medical Treatment Abroad InterMed was held in Moscow at the Expocentre Fairgrounds.

The exhibition in 2018 was attended by medical institutions from 15 countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Israel, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Finland, Croatia, South Korea and Japan.

The exhibition was visited by more than 4,500 people - specialists from Russian clinics, medical tourism agencies and travel agencies, insurance companies, as well as individuals interested in choosing a medical institution.

Of particular interest to visitors was the Japanese International Lumbago Clinic, which took part in the exhibition for the first time. The clinic specializes in minimally invasive treatment of lower back pain caused by intervertebral hernia and other diseases. Regenerative disc-therapy, used by Japanese doctors, is available in only two clinics in the world.

"We are participating in an exhibition in Russia for the first time. Following the three days of the exhibition, I would like to note that we managed to communicate with many colleagues in the field of medical tourism and directly with the patients themselves. We are confident that participation in the exhibition will help the development of our clinic," Elena Polovnikova, representative of International Lumbago Clinic.

The National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center, which also took part in the exhibition for the first time, presented unique technologies for the implantation of an artificial ventricle and other minimally invasive heart surgeries.

Traditionally, visitors were interested in the services of companies from Finland. Regular participants of the exhibition - the patient support center "Helena Medical Group" and the University Hospital of Helsinki - presented high-class medical services that open up opportunities for treating a wide range of diseases.

"Our clinic is a regular participant of the exhibition. In three days we managed to meet with our partners, met with a large number of specialists from new companies and medical centers, and also consulted people interested in treatment in Finland. We are looking forward to new meetings at the exhibition next year," Olga Konovalova, a consultant physician at the Helena clinic.

The InterMed 2018 exhibition combined an exposition of services from foreign medical institutions and an exclusive program of professional events, which presented the main trends in the development of the medical and health tourism market. With the support of the Health Tourism Association, a business interactive "International Exchange" was held, within the framework of which representatives of the domestic and foreign health sector discussed current issues in the health resort industry, including the availability of data on health institutions for doctors and patients and the prospects for continuity in the "clinic-sanatorium" system.

For the first time, the exhibition hosted a training course for medical tourism agencies and travel agencies planning to develop medical tourism. Vice President of the Association of Medical Tourism Agencies Evgeny Chernyshev helped travel agency representatives identify growth points, and medical tourism agency specialists set development priorities. The final chord of the training course was an inspection of the agencies' activities for compliance with professional criteria. Tatyana Sokolova, CEO of one of the oldest medical tourism agencies on the market, MedikaTour, prepared a checklist for new agencies, developed based on her own many years of experience in the market.

Also, as part of the business program, the conference "Medical and Rehabilitation Tourism 2018" was held, at which specialists from medical institutions in various countries shared their experience in treating serious diseases and talked about the latest technologies used in their countries.

The next InterMed exhibition will be held on March 12–14, 2019, together with Russia’s largest tourism exhibition MITT in Moscow, at the Expocentre Fairgrounds, opening up even more opportunities for Russians to receive treatment and health improvement in the world’s leading medical institutions.
