Russian Railways has introduced a special offer for travel in October on the new Lastochka between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The cost of a ticket for the entire route is 1,000 rubles, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
The Lastochka was put on this route on a permanent basis several weeks earlier. It spends almost 7 hours on the road, having stops at NATI (inside Moscow), Zelenograd (Kryukovo), Tver, Vyshny Volochek, Bologoye, Uglovka, Okulovka, Malaya Vishera, Chudovo, Lyuban, Tosno, Kolpino, Obukhovo (inside St. Petersburg).
In theory, the train was intended to transport passengers at intermediate stops, where the faster Sapsan trains do not stop. However, the October ticket sale led to most tickets being purchased for the full route from Moscow to St. Petersburg, and passengers at intermediate stations are often left without tickets. Despite the increase in the train's composition from 5 to 10 carriages, almost all tickets for the nearest dates have already been sold out.
In October and November, the schedule is greatly extended – up to seven and a half, and sometimes up to eight hours on the road. In most cases, departures from Moscow daily at 16.55, arrival in St. Petersburg at 0.30. Return departure at 13.30, arrival in Moscow at 21.52. In December, travel time is again reduced to less than seven hours.
