The ancient city of Bagan has been named a new UNESCO World Heritage site, and tourists have been banned from climbing temples and pagodas to prevent them from being damaged, the Independent reports.
The ban is aimed at preserving the city's 3,500 temples, monasteries and other monuments of the 12th-14th centuries.
According to the publication, the Myanmar government plans to move all hotels located on the territory of archaeological sites to a designated hotel zone by 2028.
Let us recall that tourists were previously prohibited from climbing the ancient buildings of Bagan, but the authorities were forced to lift the ban due to the fact that it could affect the flow of tourists.
It is noted that now temples and ancient structures will be protected so that visitors cannot climb them.
