This year, spring break for most schoolchildren will not last 9 days, as in 2018, but only 7 — from March 25 to 31. The online travel service UFS.Travel analyzed how the reduction in weekends affected the demand for travel among students and their parents and what destinations they choose for a week-long vacation.
As the company told the TRN portal, the most active air travelers during the spring holidays among schoolchildren are 7th grade students. At the same time, compared to last year, the age of children who fly by plane has decreased from 15 to 13 years. Sochi, Ufa and St. Petersburg are popular air destinations from March 25 to 31. Thanks to the warm weather and proximity to the sea, Krasnodar Krai is even more popular this year than last year's leader, St. Petersburg. The average bill for a flight to Sochi was 10,432 rubles, to Ufa - 11,873 rubles.
"Despite the fact that most Russians prefer domestic destinations during spring break, some students fly to Europe with their families. Tivat is especially popular. A flight to Montenegro at the end of March is one of the most profitable resort destinations with an average bill of 8,066 rubles. The start of the beach season and the influx of tourists is expected only in April, so the end of March is suitable for a budget and quiet holiday on the coast without crowds of tourists," UFS.Travel explained.
They also noted that train travel is popular among schoolchildren aged 10–11 and high school students aged 16–17. Of the primary school students, children aged 8–9 most often travel with their parents. Students from Moscow and their families will travel to St. Petersburg to stroll through museums and visit historical sites, as well as to Nizhny Novgorod. The capital is especially popular during spring break among residents of Kazan, Voronezh and Krasnodar.
"This year, families with schoolchildren are mainly choosing reserved seat carriages for short trips. Not only the favorable price is attractive, but also the updated carriages, which have already started running on some routes: sofas with headrests, USB ports, water filters, individual lighting and much more. It is also interesting that, despite the significant difference in cost, tickets in a compartment have become more popular this year than seats," UFS.Travel clarified.
It should be noted that, according to the company, the average bill for both air travel and train travel has increased compared to last year. In 2018, it was 4,114 rubles for train tickets, while this year it was 5,071. For air travel, it increased from 10,892 to 13,182 rubles.
Most students are looking to extend their trip and will travel this weekend, March 24-25, purchasing return tickets for March 29 and 30 to prepare for classes.
