Moscow airports have begun checking the automated passport control system (APCS) at the border. Russians will be allowed through by checking their photos and fingerprints against the data in their biometric passports. This was reported by the FSB, noting that the new system The first to benefit will be citizens of the Russian Federation.
Test booths for self-checking have been installed in terminals E and D of Sheremetyevo airport and have already begun operating. But at Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports they are only being prepared for installation, but soon the new service at these airports will also begin operating in test mode.
As FSB and airport representatives told Izvestia, the automated passport control system is capable of speeding up the process of crossing the border and will also help relieve the workload of border service employees. It has not yet been reported how long it will take for the system to be fully implemented at airports.
The checkpoints at Sheremetyevo were installed by Moscow firms Gazintech and Fintech. By the way, the new system will also automatically make a decision whether to allow a citizen through the border or refuse.
The Fintech company said that the cabin is a two-door turnstile system, the passenger himself will follow the instructions from the screens and use touch screens. At Sheremetyevo Airport, they also noted that while the new system will be in test mode, the passenger will be required to present his documents.
So, let us note that the automated passport control system is already being used in some European countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain. This system allows for a fairly quick service of the passenger when passing through passport control and, in addition, makes the procedure more comfortable.
"The ultimate goal is to minimize human involvement in this procedure. The purchase and commissioning of such equipment and its operation will cost less than hiring and paying additional border service employees, as well as equipping their workplaces. At the same time, the throughput capacity of automated checkpoints will be increased. It is not the kiosks with fingerprint scanners, documents and video cameras that will cost more, but the organization of data transfer, processing, and storage via secure channels," said Oleg Panteleev, executive director of the Aviaport agency, Izvestia reports.
