On the night from Monday to Tuesday, the cruise ship "Sapphire", following the route Solovki Island - Belomorsk, ran aground in the White Sea. According to the preliminary version, the cause of the incident was the captain's error.
As it became known, there were 125 people on board the ship people, including 4 crew members. According to TASS, the rescue operation took about four hours. No one was hurt in the incident, but a leak appeared in the vessel's technical compartment.
In turn, the Karelian transport prosecutor's office reported that the possible cause of the incident with the tourist ship "Sapphire" was the captain's error.
“Presumably, [the reason] is the captain’s error, insufficient consideration of drift and current during low tide,” the department explained.
Against this background, the Murmansk Investigative Department for Transport, together with the Petrozavodsk Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for Transport, have begun an investigation. As TASS reports, the issue of initiating criminal cases under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements") and Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of sea and inland water transport") is currently being decided.
