More than a thousand posters and placards produced from the late 19th century to the present day will be displayed at the new Poster House museum in New York. The exhibition space is set to open in the Tekserve building on 23rd Street in Chelsea, Manhattan, the same premises that housed the famous Apple Store, which closed last year after 26 years of operation.
The museum's exhibition will span 1,400 square meters and will trace the history of posters and explore their influence on design, politics and visual culture, Artnet Worldwide reports.
On September 20, the first temporary exhibition Gone Tomorrow will open, featuring posters, flyers, and signs from once-popular New York nightclubs and concert halls that have since ceased to exist. The Poster House itself will officially open in 2018.
