UK roads paralysed by traffic jams

The last Friday before Christmas is traditionally one of the worst days to travel. British experts warn that those who fail to leave before lunch will take 2-3 times longer to get to their destination than usual. This is reported by the Daily Star.

Friday, December 22, at In Great Britain, as in the rest of the Catholic world, it is the last working day before the Christmas holidays. And this day has already been called Furious Friday. As transport expert Dr. Graham Cookson stated, by lunchtime most of the country's motorways are at their maximum capacity. The speed of traffic on the highways has dropped - cars are barely crawling. Drivers are urged to be extremely careful and, if possible, to avoid long journeys.

According to the expert, travel time to the destination may increase by 2-3 times. Moreover, the worst situation is on the M25 highway - the 188 km long ring road around London. The difficult situation also remains on the M6 highway between Merseyside and Staffordshire, on the European route M1 from Larne in Ireland to Seville in Spain and the M4 from London to South Wales.

Travellers taking public transport will also face hard times, with many of the main rail routes partially closed due to Network Rail's Christmas programme.

Great Western Railway is urging passengers to get to their destinations by Saturday at the latest as London's major hub of Paddington will be closed from December 25 to 27.
The Christmas holidays in the UK will last from December 25 to January 2.
