Finnair to make light passengers fork out more

Finnair has introduced a new baggage-free tariff for flights from Russia to Europe, the Aviaport portal reports.

The Finnish carrier has launched a new Light tariff on its Russian routes. When purchasing an economy class ticket at this tariff, a passenger will be able to take only hand luggage on board the plane free of charge. Baggage allowance is not included in the price of such a ticket. The dimensions of the passenger's hand luggage must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Also, one personal item that fits freely under the seat in front and has dimensions of no more than 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm is not subject to payment. This could be, for example, a handbag, a backpack or a compact laptop bag. The total weight of hand luggage must not exceed 8 kg.

The Light fare will be available for flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Kazan, as well as from Astana and Minsk. Finnair representatives note that the new service will appeal to those passengers who like to travel light. However, the disadvantages of the new fare are obvious and lie on the surface. First of all, we are talking, of course, about the cost. The price of a Light ticket is approximately equal to the cost of a regular ticket with baggage, which could be purchased earlier. At the moment, a round-trip flight Moscow - Helsinki will cost at least 9,247 rubles. A flight with baggage will cost a third more - 12,847 rubles. Interestingly, the price of a ticket for a similar Aeroflot flight starts from 10,233 rubles round-trip. This price, by the way, includes 23 kg of baggage.

The carry-on baggage weight of 8 kg is unlikely to suit most travelers, so they will have to buy tickets at the baggage rate or pay extra for the baggage. It turns out that the Finnish airline has simply increased the cost of air travel for Russians.
