Gallup Survey: Egypt Is Safer Than Russia

The analytical agency Gallup prepared the annual report Law and Order 2018, which reflects how safe residents of 142 countries feel. Its results were published in Lonely Planet.

More than 150,000 people around the world rated how safe they feel at night alone on city streets, whether they have confidence in the local police, whether they have been attacked or robbed, etc. Based on this data, each country is assigned a safety index.

Singapore topped the list of the safest countries. Its index was the highest – 97 points. Citizens feel absolutely safe at any time of the day. Next on the list is Norway, which scored five points less. As the publication notes, the only thing you need to worry about in this country is the weather, which changes several times a day. Iceland and Finland scored the same number of points. The latter, by the way, was named the safest country in the world by experts of the World Economic Forum in 2017.

The leaders of the Law and Order 2018 study also included Uzbekistan (91 points), Hong Kong (91), Switzerland (90), Canada (90), Indonesia (89) and Denmark (88). Russia was ranked 98th in the Gallup report with a safety index of 70 points. Paraguay, Costa Rica, Kenya and Mongolia had a similar indicator. Egypt took 16th place (88 points), the UK - 21st, Spain - 26th, the Czech Republic - 32nd, Thailand - 60th, Italy - 66th. The outsiders of the rating were Venezuela with 44 points, Afghanistan with 45, South Sudan with 54th and Gabon with 55th.

As Lonely Planet writes, there are quite a few safe countries in the world. However, travelers should always be cautious and follow official recommendations before traveling abroad.
