Cities and countries where tourists are no longer welcome have become known

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has named the most tourist-congested destinations in the world. This was reported on the organization's official portal.

WTTC experts, together with McKinsey&Company, studied the cities and countries that are experiencing the most problems due to the constant growth of tourist flow. According to the prepared report, almost two thirds of tourists who arrived in 2016 came from 20 countries. Among them are France (82 million), the USA and Spain (76 million each), China (59 million).

The top 10 also includes Italy, which received 53 million guests, Great Britain and Germany with 36 million tourists each, Mexico, which was visited by 35 million tourists, Thailand with 33 million and Russia with 32 million per year.

Austria, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Turkey, Greece, Japan, UAE and Portugal are also quite popular countries among travelers.

As experts note, a large number of tourists often leads to such problems as anger among local residents, overloaded infrastructure, damage to the environment, etc. At the same time, not only cities, but also individual objects, such as museums, parks, and attractions, often suffer from overloads.

The WTTC Council also named the cities where this problem is extremely acute. Among them are Barcelona, Amsterdam, Venice, Rome, Dubrovnik. Kuala Lumpur and Macau have problems with the tourist flow. Prague, Warsaw and Dubai are at risk. In Moscow, experts identified only one problem - too much dependence on the season.

Experts recommend that countries and cities experiencing problems with tourist flow keep records, engage in long-term planning of tourism strategy with the involvement of industry experts, and also evenly redistribute tourists over time and across territories.
