Why St. Petersburg received a tourism Oscar

On Saturday, September 30, the Ethnographic Museum in the northern capital hosted the World Travel Awards ceremony. St. Petersburg won the nomination "The Most Attractive City for Tourism in Europe 2017."

100 cities from around the world competed with each other. Participants included leaders in tourist flow and such popular destinations as Barcelona, Rome, Paris, London and Amsterdam.

By the way, this is not the first time that the northern capital of Russia has received World Travel Awards. Thus, two years ago, St. Petersburg was named the best tourist destination in Europe. And a year later, it became the winner in the nomination "Leading cultural and tourist destination". For this reason, the award ceremony was held in Russia - for the first time in the history of the competition.

"I think it's really great how people here in St Petersburg treat the preservation of history and culture," said Graham Cook, head of the competition's organizing committee. He also noted that one of the advantages of the northern capital is the cleanliness and well-groomed streets.

The World Travel Awards was founded in 1993. Tourism experts often call it the tourism "Oscar". Airlines, hotels, travel companies, etc. are evaluated in various nominations.
