Travel service Tutu.ru specialists analyzed all search queries in July, August and September for round-trip air tickets departing from Moscow for the New Year dates (from December 25 to January 8). The data was compared with the same period last year.
As the company's press service told TRN, most travelers (60%) who are already looking for air tickets for the New Year dates are looking at foreign destinations. Last year at the same time, there was a similar trend.
Trends:
- Demand for New Year holidays in Georgia has fallen significantly. Thus, the share of travelers who are looking for tickets to Tbilisi for the New Year has decreased by 81% compared to last year.
- Travelers most actively search for New Year's air tickets for the most expensive and busy destinations, where savings from early purchase can be very significant, half a year in advance. Prices, compared to last year, do not change much. Changes in prices when searching for 4-6 months do not always indicate changes in real prices. Prices are affected by the range of products available at the moment.
On average, air tickets within Russia for New Year's dates are now 5% more expensive than a year earlier (12,635 rubles instead of 12,040 rubles), and abroad - 6% cheaper (29,969 rubles instead of 31,864).
- The most popular foreign destination for celebrating the New Year is Prague.
Every fourth of those planning to fly to a Russian city in the New Year is looking for a ticket to Sochi. Simferopol is in second place, and Kaliningrad is in third. The number of search queries for Khabarovsk and Vladivostok has increased. On the contrary, Kazan has dropped out of the top ten.
Travelers are most actively looking at the Czech Republic (Prague) and Thailand (Phuket and Bangkok). The top ten includes European cities where you can feel the spirit of Christmas: Prague, Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Munich, as well as cities where you can hide from the winter cold: Phuket, Bangkok, Dubai.
