The Crimean authorities have partially restricted entry for tourists to Mount Ai-Petri: due to heavy traffic jams on the snowy road, only passengers in SUVs will be able to reach the popular attraction.
“According to information received by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, "Everyone who wanted to, including those in unsuitable vehicles, drove into the hazardous section of the road en masse. Yesterday, during the mass accumulation of vehicles, traffic jams arose on the hazardous section. Rescuers had to literally just pull cars apart. Despite the fact that the road was treated with reagents, ice and snowdrifts formed in some places, which significantly complicated traffic, especially after dark. People stuck on this section simply began to panic, many had children in their cars," said Sergey Shakhov, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Crimea, the press service of the department reports.
As a result, according to him, on January 3, in order to stop traffic on the specified section of the road, a barrier and traffic police posts were installed: “Thus, traffic on the specified section, 40 km long, is closed to all mechanical vehicles, with the exception of off-road vehicles equipped with anti-skid devices,” the Minister said.
