Russia and Maldives to sign visa waiver agreement

On June 25, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Maldives, Sergei Lavrov and Abdulla Shahid, will sign an agreement on the mutual abolition of visas.

 

 

“On June 25, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. V. Lavrov, Russia was visited for the first time on a working visit The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid, will visit. During the visit, it is planned to sign an Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on the mutual abolition of visa requirements for citizens of the Russian Federation and citizens of the Republic of Maldives,” reads a statement published on the official website of the ministry.

It should be noted that the Maldives are noticeably popular among Russian tourists. As the department reports, according to Rosstat, more than 38 thousand of our compatriots vacationed on the islands of the archipelago in 2018. The tourist flow increases every year.

There is an air traffic agreement between Russia and the Republic of Maldives from 1995. Since October 2010, Aeroflot-Russian Airlines PJSC has been operating regular flights on the Moscow-Male route.
