Currently, an epidemiological emergency is being registered for Dengue fever in Thailand. The situation is particularly unfavorable on the island of Phuket, where 220 cases of the disease have been recorded since the beginning of the current year, Rospotrebnadzor reports.
Dengue fever cases have also been registered in the provinces of Samut Sakhot, Phang Nga, Nakhon Sri Thamarat and Krabi. Over the past period of 2018, 9 cases of the disease in Thailand have resulted in deaths, including 2 cases on the island of Phuket. The increase in the incidence rate is associated with the peculiarities of the epidemic process, which are characterized by seasonality (the beginning of the monsoon season and intense heat).
“In recent years, imported cases of Dengue fever have been registered in the Russian Federation, including 63 cases in 2012, 170 in 2013, 105 cases in 2014, 136 in 2015, 145 in 2016, 196 in 2017, and 59 cases in the first 3 months of 2018. Infection occurred during visits to Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and the Maldives,” the department clarified.
The main carriers of Dengue fever are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. In the absence of a carrier, a sick person does not pose an epidemiological danger.
For reference:
Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquito bites. Symptoms include high fever, nausea, rash, headaches and back pain. The hemorrhagic variant of the fever is accompanied by severe internal bleeding caused by the collapse of blood vessels.
In order to prevent dengue fever and other hemorrhagic fevers with transmission among Russian tourists traveling to Peru, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and other tropical countries, it is necessary to:
• when traveling to countries with a tropical climate, inquire about the possibility of infection with hemorrhagic fevers transmitted by transmission;
• use personal protective equipment such as: window mosquito nets, canopies, long-sleeved clothing, insecticide-treated materials, repellents;
• upon return, if your temperature rises, inform your doctor about your stay in a country with a tropical climate.
