The Most Popular European Cities for Travelers at Christmas

Travel service Tutu.ru specialists analyzed sales of air tickets to Europe with the capture of Christmas and found out which destinations became the most popular among Russians. Conditions: flights to European cities from any city in Russia were analyzed.

As the company's press service told TRN, in 2019, European routes accounted for about 8% of all tickets sold by Tutu.ru in December. This share will decrease at the end of December to a final 4–5%, when tickets within Russia, where the average booking depth is 5–7 days, will start to be bought more actively.

Compared to last year, the number of travelers who decided to go to Europe for the holidays at the beginning of December decreased by 4%. The average cost of flights to Europe remained at the level of last year (+2% — up to 27.6 thousand rubles for roundtrip tickets).

Prague is far from a new route for Russian tourists, but, as air ticket sales show, it is the most popular in December. Also, in search of a fairy-tale mood, travelers fly to Dusseldorf and Munich. By the way, four cities in Germany made it into the rating: Dusseldorf, Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main. This is probably due to both travelers' love for Germany and the number of flights to this country.

Interest in Belgrade has grown noticeably (the share of passengers has doubled from 1.6% to 2.9%). Serbia is considered one of the cheapest countries in Europe, which is good for budget tourists.

At the same time, Barcelona dropped out of the top 10 this year.

Seven of the top 10 destinations saw price reductions. The largest decline was on flights to Belgrade (-12%). On the contrary, the average bill to Dusseldorf increased by a third.
