Demand for New Year's trips to Europe fell by almost 20%

Analysts from the travel service Tutu.ru studied which countries travelers will fly to to celebrate the New Year. All purchased early booking air tickets with travel dates from December 15, 2018 to January 15, 2019 were analyzed. The data was compared with the same period last year.

It turned out that demand for Europe fell by 17% (passenger traffic decreased from 16.1% to 13.3%). Demand for countries of the near and far abroad remains at the level of last year. However, more travelers plan to celebrate the holidays in Russian cities than last year - the share of passengers increased from 69% to 71.8%, the press service of Tutu.ru told TRN.

They also noted that prices for flights to Europe have remained virtually unchanged - the average bill has decreased by 2% from 25,677 to 25,242 rubles for a round-trip ticket. In turn, the average bill for flights to non-CIS countries has increased by 1%. Flights within Russia have increased in price by 7% (from 13 to 14 thousand rubles). On average, New Year's tickets to neighboring countries have increased in price by 10% (from 16,448 to 18,145 rubles).

Among European destinations, flights to Prague from Moscow take first place. They account for 11% of all tickets purchased to Europe (this is slightly more than last year). The cost of round-trip tickets on this route has remained virtually unchanged over the year and amounts to 24 thousand rubles.

The second and third positions are shared by Vienna with departures from Moscow and Prague with departures from St. Petersburg. Last New Year, the top three most popular flights to Europe were from Moscow to Prague, Vienna and Munich. This year, Munich has dropped from third to fifth place. The popularity of Paris, Budapest, London and Frankfurt am Main has also decreased. This year, they did not make it into the top 10 most popular destinations for the New Year.
