In anticipation of International Women's Day, a site for searching for flights, hotels and car rentals Skyscanner analyzed booking statistics and compiled a ranking of the fastest growing foreign destinations as of March 8.
Favorites for travel Italy, Germany and Türkiye traditionally became spring break destinations. The biggest surge of interest among travelers from Russia was caused by Latvia — growth was 133%. Next came Armenia and Hungary, which have become twice as popular as compared to the same period last year.
Georgia (+45%), Cyprus (+28%) and several European countries also made it into the top ten fastest growing countries: Switzerland (+30%), Spain (+21%), France (+17%), the Netherlands (+12%), Germany (+9%). In total, according to Skyscanner, almost two thirds of Russian travelers will spend March 8 abroad.
Dmitry Khavanskiy, Development Manager Skyscanner in Russia: «During the upcoming spring holidays, we are seeing a big jump in interest in Europe and its neighboring countries. And while Armenia and Georgia have long been among the favorite destinations offering quality and affordable vacations, the noticeable increase in the attractiveness of Latvia and other European countries has occurred for several reasons. One of them is the development of the route networks of the national low-cost airline Pobeda, thanks to which it is now possible to fly to France, Germany and the Netherlands at more favorable prices. Another reason is the low demand for trips in March, and, as a result, the low cost of air tickets. Thus, today the average price of a flight from Russia to Latvia is 10,500 rubles, to Switzerland - 12,000 rubles, to Cyprus - 14,000 rubles, which is a third cheaper compared to the same period last year.
