Malaysian authorities plan to open religious schools to tourists.
As reported by Free Malaysia Today, the country's Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mohamaddin Ketapi noted that schools are currently being selected to transform to tourist attractions. Although such establishments have boarding houses, tourists could stay overnight in rooms or houses rented by the centers.
The minister also added that this method will strengthen the country’s image in Islamic tourism.
In addition, Malaysia is now also actively developing mosques as tourist attractions. The CEO of the Islamic Tourism Centre, Abdul Hani Daud, said that guidelines are being developed to welcome foreign visitors to mosques so that such religious sites can be visited by non-Muslims only.
