The Indian government aims to increase the country's share of the total global tourist arrivals market to 1% by 2020 and to 2% by 2025, the country's tourism ministry said.
According to the results of 2016, the country's share in the total world tourist flow (arrival of foreign tourists to India) amounted to 0.71%, while India's outbound share in the total flow was 1.18%.
The government expects to increase these figures, including India's share in tourist receipts, to 1% and 2% by 2020 and 2025, respectively.
For this purpose, the country's Ministry of Tourism has created two concepts. The country will have integrated development of thematic tourist routes and promotion of pilgrimage, travel to religious shrines. The second concept is aimed at creating a tourist infrastructure and forming a culture of tourism in the state.
At this stage, the Ministry has launched a campaign to inform interested industry participants and the public about the state’s plans in the tourism sector.
