Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian and Brussels Airlines introduce baggage-free fares from Russia to North America

The Lufthansa airline group (which also includes SWISS, Austrian and Brussels Airlines) has introduced baggage-free fares for flights from Russia to North America. Sales of such tickets have been open since February 3, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.

Previously, the Lufthansa Group doubted the advisability of introducing baggage-free fares from Russia on long-haul routes (from other European countries they appeared almost two years ago). Obviously, the reason for changing its position was Aeroflot's decision to introduce similar fares on routes to the USA at the end of December. Now, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group will not be at a disadvantage from the point of view of passengers compared to Aeroflot.

Currently, the minimum roundtrip fare found from Moscow to New York among the airlines in the group is 23,976 rubles without baggage and 30,876 rubles with baggage. Prices to Los Angeles start at 26,073 and 32,973 rubles, respectively. Thus, flying without baggage has become slightly cheaper, with baggage – significantly more expensive.

Adding baggage to a baggage-free fare costs 60 euros each way. It is worth keeping in mind that the Lufthansa group does not provide free baggage space to elite members of Miles&More and other Star Alliance loyalty programs if they choose a baggage-free fare.
