Singapore Airlines opened ticket sales on May 31 for the future longest flight in the world. The non-stop flight between New York and Singapore lasting 18.5 hours costs from $1130, reports our own correspondent Travel.ru.
The route will open on October 11 and will be served daily. The winter schedule leaves Singapore at 0:40, arriving in New York (Newark Airport) at 5:30 the same day (travel time is 17 hours 50 minutes). The return flight departs at 9:45, arriving in Singapore at 17:15 the next day (travel time is 18 hours 30 minutes).
The route will use the Airbus A350-900ULR (ultra long range) aircraft. Due to its long flight range (about 9,000 nautical miles or 16,700 kilometers), the aircraft can take on board a limited number of passengers, and therefore it has only two classes: business (67 seats) and premium economy (94 seats).
Fares in both classes are virtually identical to another Singapore Airlines flight on the same route, which has long been operated via Frankfurt. The New York to Singapore flight costs $$1,130 one-way in premium economy and $$3,325 in business. Round-trip fares start at $$1,734 and $$3,372, respectively.
Singapore Airlines previously had a non-stop flight from Singapore to New York, and it was also the longest and longest in the world. At that time, it was served by an Airbus A340 and the capacity restrictions were even more severe, so the plane only had business class. The route was closed in 2013 due to the withdrawal of the Airbus A340 from the fleet.
The longest flight in the world is currently the Doha-Auckland route on Qatar Airways (14,535 kilometres). Almost as long is the recently launched Qantas route between Perth and London (14,500 kilometres).
