Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and Spain were named the most dangerous countries for tourists in 2017. It was here that travelers most often applied for insurance payments. Such data is provided by the company ERV.
A company specializing in travel insurance ERV named the top 10 countries in terms of the number of tourist insurance claims. The largest number of insurance claims — 28,510 — was recorded in Turkey in 2017. This figure is 44% of the total number of claims. Thailand is in second place, with 8,194 people seeking help from the insurance company. Also in the top 10 most dangerous countries for tourists, according to ERV, are Vietnam, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, and Greece. Cyprus, India, and Tunisia are at the bottom of the list.
According to the insurance company, the most difficult case was the hospitalization of a 76-year-old tourist with pneumonia in Switzerland. Her insurance of 50,000 euros allowed her to reimburse all necessary expenses. In addition, expensive insurance events last year occurred in the United States, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore and Thailand. In these countries, the highest settlement costs amounted to almost 3,000,000 rubles each. ERV also noted that in 2017, the number of tourist claims for insurance cases increased by 161%, compared to the previous year.
Let us add that it is definitely not worth visiting Turkey and many other countries without insurance. The cost of the policy starts from 400 rubles, depending on the coverage amount. If an insured event occurs, the tourist must call their insurance company at the number indicated in the policy. This will make sure whether the case is an insured one, and also receive all the necessary instructions on further actions.
