Chile, the United States and Thailand have been named the riskiest countries for tourists to travel to, the Express newspaper reported, citing data from the insurance company Endsleigh Insurance Services.
UK insurers have named the world's most dangerous tourist destinations based on indicators insurance claims from travelers. The figures showed that Thailand, known for its idyllic sandy beaches, ornate temples and exquisite cuisine, poses the greatest safety threat to tourists. Almost a quarter of insurance claims in 2017 were recorded in this country. As experts noted, the main reason for Thailand's "leadership" lies in its popularity and the huge flow of tourists from all over the world. Chile and the United States were named as two more dangerous places. These destinations account for 15% claims from travelers each.
Unexpectedly, the list of risky countries was expanded by Spain (8%), Germany (8%) and France (7%). In Spain, street crime was named the biggest danger for tourists. Here, things are often stolen right at the airport. In France, robberies are also the most common problem. Robbers most often operate in the Paris metro, RER lines and main stations, such as Gare du Nord.
The list of dangerous destinations also includes Nepal, Peru, the Bahamas and Brazil. According to Endsleigh Marketing Manager Julia Alpan, traveling to a foreign country is always exciting, but it is worth remembering the risks. Especially if you are not familiar with the specifics of the destination. To protect yourself, it is important to do your own research before traveling and make sure you have the right travel insurance, - said the Endsleigh representative.
In May 2018, the ERV company, which operates in the Russian market, shared similar data. According to its data, the largest number of insurance cases in 2017 were recorded in Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Bulgaria and Greece.
