Oman Eases Visa Regime

Since May 7, Oman has eased the visa regime for citizens of Russia, China and Iran; now tourists from these countries can come to the sultanate on a tourist visa without confirmation from a local sponsor, Interfax reports, citing the Times of Oman.

"Citizens of Iran, Russia and China have been added to the list of nationalities that can enter the sultanate on a tourist visa without confirmation from a local sponsor,” the publication writes, citing the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

According to the newspaper, visas will be issued to tourists upon arrival at the country's airport.

It was previously reported that the Omani authorities had already taken steps to ease the visa regime for Russians. Thus, in 2017, the country simplified the visa regime for Russian citizens, but the rule only applied to holders of citizenship, residence permits or holders of valid visas from countries of the Schengen Agreement, Great Britain, the USA, Australia or Canada. Other Russians were required to obtain a visa in advance through a sponsor in Oman, which could be a person who is a citizen of this state or a tour operator registered in the country, in order to enter the sultanate.
