According to the latest statistics, Thailand received about 1.1 million wedding tourists in 2016, earning US$1.77 billion from this segment.
Of this flow, 104,090 people directly registered in the country, thereby bringing it US$154 million, and 988,900 held wedding ceremonies at resorts in Thailand (US$1.47 billion). The country's main markets in this segment were Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania.
This was announced, as reported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, at the Amour Asia Pacific 2018 forum, which was held from February 14 to 17 in Bangkok at the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park Hotel.
The event was attended by 58 companies from around the world involved in luxury holidays and weddings.
Ms. Srisuda Wananpinyosak, Deputy Head of TAT International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and America), stated that holding Amour Asia Pacific 2018 in Bangkok confirms the high level of Thai wedding planning companies on the world stage.
“Thailand was unanimously voted as the preferred destination for the event. This year’s event is a testament to Thailand’s growing status in the wedding segment,” she said, adding that wedding tourists to Thailand make a wide variety of choices for their celebrations, from mountainous northern provinces to seaside regions and metropolitan cities.
In turn, Managing Director of Destination Asia Ms. Pornthip Hirunkate, that the company's luxury customers prefer four- and five-star villas or apartments and a customized itinerary. They usually travel with their families for at least two weeks, spending more than 10,000 baht ($318) a day, she added.
