On the morning of August 2, a series of explosions occurred in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok: small explosive devices went off near a number of government buildings and in the metro. According to the latest information, two people were injured.
According to Nation TV, the first three explosions thundered one after another with intervals of 5-7 minutes at 5 am (1 am Moscow time) in the Prato district, on the first floor of the Indra Regent Hotel. It is known that two municipal workers were injured in the first explosion.
It is also noted that the Prato area is located near the convention center at the Centara Grand Hotel, where meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries and the bloc's dialogue partners are taking place this week, including the East Asia Summit and the Regional Security Summit (ARF), in which delegations from Russia, the United States, China and other countries, as well as the EU, are participating along with the ASEAN foreign ministers.
In addition, two more explosions thundered under the Chongnonsi BTS station at 8:00 (4:00 Moscow time) on Narathiwat Street, where bank offices are located, as well as some embassies, including the Russian one.
Against this backdrop, the Russian Embassy in Thailand called on tourists to avoid large crowds.
"On the morning of August 2, a series of explosions occurred in a number of central areas of Bangkok. Low-power explosive devices went off near a number of government buildings and in the metro. At present, it is reported that 2 people were slightly injured. In this regard, the Embassy recommends that Russian citizens in the capital of Thailand limit their visits to places near government buildings if possible, and also exercise increased vigilance when on public transport (avoid suspicious objects - abandoned bags, packages, etc.)," the department said in a statement.
In turn, ATOR reported that there is no information about any injured Russians.
