As TASS reports, the decision to close the borders with Belarus for the movement of people was made by the Russian authorities as a measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.
“We also made a decision to close the border with Belarus for the movement of people, took a number of other preemptive steps. We will continue to do everything to protect our country from this new threat, act proactively, take comprehensive measures to prevent, first of all, the mass spread of coronavirus," said Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during an operational meeting.
