Egypt at the start

Regular air service to Egypt will resume on Wednesday evening. Aeroflot will launch the first flight to Cairo from Sheremetyevo at 20:50. Flights in this direction will be carried out weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

From June 12 to July 2, the frequency of flights between the capitals of Russia and Egypt will be increased to daily. This is due to the increased demand for air travel during the football tournament.

According to media reports, about 120 tickets have been booked for the first flight. In total, about 4,000 tickets from Moscow to Cairo have been sold by the end of the summer flight season.

As the press service of Biletix reported to the TRN portal, the demand for direct flights to Cairo is quite low.

"Demand is measured by a couple dozen search queries. There is no point in talking about demand recovery or the popularity of Cairo as a tourist destination," the company notes.

According to the service, last March the average check for a roundtrip flight to Cairo with transfers was 25,306 rubles. Direct flights now cost from 28,857 rubles, that is, 14% more.

OneTwoTrip notes that despite the appearance of tickets for Aeroflot and Egypt Air flights on sale, Russians continue to use the services of other airlines offering connections in third countries. In particular, almost 50% tickets to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada are on flights of Turkish carriers Turkish Airlines and Pegasus via Istanbul.

"Of course, the opening of direct flights to Cairo will fuel interest in this country. But the mass flow of tourists from Russia to Egypt can only become possible after the resumption of charter flights, which, in our opinion, will allow Egypt to quickly restore its position in our market," says Director of Development of the OneTwoTrip service Arkady Gines.

It was previously reported that before opening air traffic to Egyptian resorts, it is necessary to work out the security system at Cairo airport.

"We plan to resume air traffic with Cairo on April 11 with an Aeroflot flight. On April 12, Egypt Air will operate its first flight to Moscow. A special Russian group of aviation security specialists will be in Cairo to help their Egyptian colleagues ensure safety. We need to practice safety skills, and only then will we consider the possibility of flights to resort destinations - Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada," he said. Head of Rosaviatsiya Alexander Neradko.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia will continue to work on resuming air traffic with Egyptian resorts.

Let us recall that flights between Russia and Egypt were suspended after the terrorist attack on board the Kogalymavia airline plane, which crashed over the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015.
