News about mass deaths of Russian tourists in Turkey, which have increasingly begun to appear in the media, do not accurately reflect the situation. This is the conclusion reached by participants in a round table devoted to the issue of the safety of Russian vacationers in Turkey, which took place in the Public Chamber on Tuesday, September 17.
So, according to the words CEO of the insurance company ERV Andrey Tyurin, From May to August last year, 1.8 million insured tourists vacationed in Turkey. During this period, 22 thousand insurance cases were recorded, including 29 deaths. This year - about 2 million insured, 24 thousand insurance cases, 27 deaths. "This is completely proportional to last year, the number of deaths has not increased," he emphasized, noting that most often travelers encounter colds, intestinal infections and other minor illnesses.
I also agreed that the information in a number of media outlets was exaggerated. head of the MGP network Sergei Agafonov. According to him, this year work in the Turkish direction is proceeding as usual - all tourists going on holiday through tour operators are insured, and in the event of an insured event, assistance is provided clearly and promptly.
"In general, what we discussed in the Public Chamber boiled down to the following: neither in Turkey itself nor in other countries popular with Russian tourists, nothing extraordinary is happening. There is no systemic failure. Around 6 million Russians come to Turkey every year, and, unfortunately, with such volumes, accidents are inevitable. But this applies to any mass destination," the expert told TRN.
In turn, member of the Public Council of Rostourism Roman Bobylev emphasized that, in total, since the beginning of 2019, 88 deaths of Russian tourists have been recorded in Turkey, although not all travelers died as a result of accidents.
"A more objective assessment can be given if we analyze statistics for Turkey over the past few years and compare them with other countries. And according to information provided by insurance companies, Turkey is not out of the global statistics this year," he said.
