The authorities of the Big Island of Hawaii have ordered the evacuation of local residents from the Puna area, located near the lava flow zone of the erupting Kilauea volcano, Interfax reports, citing the Associated Press.
According to the agency, the volcano's lava has already destroyed more than 40 residential buildings, and large cracks have formed on the roads.
Last week, local emergency services evacuated about 2,000 people, mostly residents of the Leilani Estates settlement.
The US Geological Survey said there are currently about 20 volcanic fissures with lava flowing from them.
The volcano has been showing increased seismic activity since early May. Kilauea is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The volcano is 1,247 meters above sea level.
