US Losing Tourist Flows

As the company's analysts emphasize Forwardkeys, the US has been losing tourist flows for the second year in a row, and this factor has allowed Spain to overtake the US in the tourism field. Thus, Spain received 82 million tourists last year, which is 9% more than in 2016. Number of trips to the US amounted to approximately 73 million.

It should be noted that the U.S. lost 2% in the year before last, and about 4% last year. Industry experts said there were two key reasons for this: the strong dollar and the controversial immigration and travel policies introduced by the Trump administration.

Last week, the U.S. Travel Association said tourism spending declined last year, costing the U.S. economy $4.6 billion in the first 11 months of 2017, according to the association.

While the US suffered, tourism to European destinations boomed.

Thus, France remained the world's favorite tourist destination last year, with the number of travelers to the country growing by 8% to approximately 89 million people.

The United States' neighbors also saw increases in tourist arrivals, with Mexico seeing 12% more tourists than the year before and Canada seeing 4% more.
